Circular services
ProfilGruppen helps customers develop circular business models. Among other things, we offer recycling of customers’ aluminum scrap. Together with our partners, we handle dismantling, sorting and re-melting to make new products.
Infinitely recyclable
Aluminum is a durable, lightweight, and malleable material that can be recycled endlessly without losing its properties. Recycling requires only 5% of the energy used in primary production, making aluminum an ideal material for a circular economy.
Primary aluminum
Manufacturing aluminum from raw materials is energy intensive, but we work with suppliers who use renewable energy. Average emissions in Europe are below 7 kilograms of CO₂ per kilogram of aluminum, and with fossil-free energy sources this can be reduced to 4 kilograms. We support the development of technologies such as inert anodes to further reduce emissions.
Recycled materials are in demand
We use aluminum scrap from both our own and our customers’ processes and from recycled products. Around one third of the European market’s aluminum is recycled, but the potential is even greater as three quarters of all aluminum produced is still in use and not yet recycled.
Efficient material management
We recover all scrap from our production and send it to local smelters for re-melting and re-use. At the same time, we actively work to minimize the amount of scrap through smart design and efficient processes, reducing both environmental impact and costs.
Operational targets give clear results
ProfilGruppen has targets for reducing greenhouse gas emissions and resource consumption. In 2023, our scope 1 and 2 emissions amounted to approximately 0.086 kilos of CO₂ per kilo of aluminum thanks to certified fossil-free electricity. In addition, our customers’ choice of aluminum from Nordic suppliers contributed to a global saving of up to 570,000 tons of carbon dioxide equivalent compared to coal-based alternatives.
ProfilGruppen combines sustainability and continuous improvement to deliver aluminum solutions that strengthen a circular economy and reduce climate impact.
