Material thickness

lloy choice has a direct impact on material thickness. In general terms, and with a starting point of EN AW-6060, alloy EN AW-6005 requires a 15 % increase and alloy EN AW-6082 a 25 % increase.

The larger the extrusion, the greater the material thickness required in order for the process to work. The graph below shows the recommended minimum thicknesses for various types of extrusion and presses.

This assumes that the extrusion design is optimal, meaning that requirements are imposed in respect of:

  • uniform material
  • symmetrical extrusion shape
  • stable extrusion structure.
