Painting

One alternative to anodising is painting. It is a flexible method for giving aluminium a durable colour or surface finish.

By working closely with our suppliers, we are able to offer powder coating in a wide selection of colours in the RAL and NCS/s schemes. If you opt for painting, you will have a large number of colours to choose from, which in certain quantities have a high UV resistance.

Normally, the paint layer has a thickness of 50–140 µm. However, it is worth remembering that the paint layer will always be thicker on the outer tips of the extrusion cross-section and it is difficult to achieve sufficient coverage in the bottom of recesses.

Lackering

When powder coating, different types of powder may be used depending on the function and durability requirements imposed on the paint layer.

Epoxy

  • Susceptible to overcuring
  • High chemical resistance
  • Restricted area of use
  • UV sensitive
  • Indoor use only
  • Fades when exposed to high doses of sunlight

Mixed quality (epoxy/polyester)

  • Indoor use only
  • Can be customised to realise special characteristics (liquid, thin layer, etc.)

Polyester (polyester façade)

  • For outdoor use
  • Good UV resistance
  • Good stretchability for finishing (bending)

Pre-treatment

There are two types of pre-treatment – degreaser/iron phosphatising. The type used is dependent on the end application.

Degreasing/Iron Phosphatising

  • Indoor use only
  • Not suitable for finishing
  • Good adhesion
  • Does not provide anti-corrosion protection
