Alutin – a unique method

Static electricity is a problem affecting many areas. A lot of electronic products are extremely sensitive to static electricity, which often results in a discharge in the form of a small high-energy spark.

Such discharges can easily interfere with electronic components and should be avoided in a number of different situations. For example, sparking in a fuel pump at a petrol station could have dire consequences.

The grounding of all metal surfaces counteracts static electricity, but requires the surface layer to be conductive. Normally, anodisation produces a insulating surface layer, but our unique method Alutin can be used to create conductive surfaces instead.

Alutin also provides a very good surface for subsequent painting. Adhesive and corrosion properties have also proved to be very good in both indoor and outdoor environments.

Protects surfaces and the environment

Alutin is available as part of our short-length anodisation process for lengths of up to 1.5 metres. By adding tin to the anodisation process, we create a surface layer that conducts current. This method can be used for most alloys that can be anodised and is particularly suitable for extrusions made of sheet aluminium or castings. In addition to good conductivity, Alutin also provides high wearability, low friction and excellent protection against corrosion. Alutin is available in natural-coloured aluminium.

In environmental terms, Alutin is significantly better than many conventional methods, such as chemical nickel-plating and gold chromating, use of which has been restricted for environmental reasons.

Areas of application

Alutin is a suitable method to use when a conductive surface layer is required. Usually, Alutin is used by the electronics and telecommunications industry, but the oil and automotive industries have also employed this unique method successfully.
